Hubble captures the deepest visible-light image of the universe, originated nearly 600 million years ago (Reference: The Big Bang took place ~ 14 billion years before!)

The photo was taken with the new WFC3/IR camera on Hubble in late August 2009 during a total of four days of pointing for 173,000 seconds of total exposure time. Infrared light is invisible and therefore does not have colors that can be perceived by the human eye. The colors in the image are assigned comparatively short, medium, and long, near-IR wavelengths (blue, 1.05 microns; green, 1.25 microns; red, 1.6 microns). The representation is "natural" in that blue objects look blue and red objects look red. The faintest objects are about one billionth as bright as can be seen with the naked eye.

That's dana-farber chemotherapy clinic. At the end of day, a thought was to pick which 'choice' and a hazy view beyond those window made me think: Some of us just can't have any other option than to simply accept what we have and wait for time to strike. At least I am thankful for giving me choices to choose from rather me showing grudge on failures I am having and becoming greedy.

Never follow anyone else's path, unless you're in the woods and you're lost and you see a path, and by all means you should follow that. Don't give advice, it will come back and bite you in the ass. Don't take anyone's advice. So my advice to you is to be true to yourself and everything will be fine.

And I know that a lot of you are concerned about your future, but there's no need to worry. The economy is booming, the job market is wide open, the planet is just fine. It's gonna be great. You've already survived a hurricane. What else can happen to you? And as I mentioned before, some of the most devastating things that happen to you will teach you the most. And now you know the right questions to ask in your first job interview. Like, "Is it above sea level?". So to conclude my conclusion that I've previously concluded, in the common cement speech, I guess what I'm trying to say is life is like one big Mardi Gras. But instead of showing your boobs, show people your brain, and if they like what they see, you'll have more beads than you know what to do with. And you'll be drunk, most of the time. So the Katrina class of 2009, I say congratulations and if you don't remember a thing I said today, remember this: you're gonna be ok, dum de dum dum dum, just dance.

In short, this Gmail feature will give you alert specifically during late nights (esp. of weekends) before sending email(s). Well! I would had surely grateful to Google if this feature was available couple years back!

The biggest mistakes I've made is when I've refused to pay attention to my intuition. When I followed it, things have always worked. It's when I try to rationalize that I get into trouble. In Star Trek terms, I can be too Spock-like in my thinking.

What you want to be? Follow the inner voice or to be a sheep follower?

Some time ago I received a call from a colleague. He was about to give a student a zero for his answer to a physics question, while the student claimed a perfect score. The instructor and the student agreed to an impartial arbiter, and I was selected.

I read the examination question:

"SHOW HOW IT IS POSSIBLE TO DETERMINE THE HEIGHT OF A TALL BUILDING WITH THE AID OF A BAROMETER."

The student had answered, "Take the barometer to the top of the building, attach a long rope to it, lower it to the street, and then bring it up, measuring the length of the rope. The length of the rope is the height of the building."
The student really had a strong case for full credit since he had really answered the question completely and correctly! On the other hand, if full credit were given, it could well contribute to a high grade in his physics course and to certify competence in physics, but the answer did not confirm this.

I suggested that the student have another try. I gave the student six minutes to answer the question with the warning that the answer should show some knowledge of physics. At the end of five minutes, he had not written anything. I asked if he wished to give up, but he said he had many answers to this problem; he was just thinking of the best one . I excused myself for interrupting him and asked him to please go on.

In the next minute, he dashed off his answer, which read:
"Take the barometer to the top of the building and lean over the edge of the roof. Drop the barometer, timing its fall with a stopwatch. Then, using the formula H = 1/2 x a x t 2 , calculate the height of the building."
At this point, I asked my colleague if he would give up. He conceded, and gave the student almost full credit.
While leaving my colleague's office, I recalled that the student had said that he had other answers to the problem, so I asked him what they were.

"Well," said the student, "there are many ways of getting the height of a tall building with the aid of a barometer.

For example, you could take the barometer out on a sunny day and measure the height of the barometer, the length of its shadow, and the length of the shadow of the building, and by the use of simple proportion, determine the height of the building."

"Fine," I said, "and others?"

"Yes," said the student, "there is a very basic measurement method you will like. In this method, you take the barometer and begin to walk up the stairs. As you climb the stairs, you mark off the length of the barometer along the wall. You then count the number of marks, and this will give you the height of the building in barometer units."

"A very direct method."

"Of course. If you want a more sophisticated method, you can tie the barometer to the end of a string, swing it as a pendulum, and determine the value of g at the street level and at the top of the building. From the difference between the two values of g, the height of the building, in principle, can be calculated."

"On this same tact, you could take the barometer to the top of the building, attach a long rope to it, lower it to just above the street, and then swing it as a pendulum. You could then calculate the height of the building by the period of the recession".

"Finally," he concluded, "there are many other ways of solving the problem. Probably the best," he said, "is to take the barometer to the basement and knock on the superintendent's door. When the superintendent answers, you speak to him as follows:

'Mr. Superintendent, here is a fine barometer. If you will tell me the height of the building, I will give you this barometer."

At this point, I asked the student if he really did not know the conventional answer to this question. He admitted that he did, but said that he was fed up with high school and college instructors trying to teach him how to think.

The student was Neil Bohr (known for quantum theory of physics & mechanics,hydrogen atom etc ) and the arbiter was Rutherford.

It was the fine sunny day, a rabbit was sitting outside his laboratory and tapping on his computer. A fox came out, on seeing the rabbit on computer he eagerly asked, " O" rabbit what made you so busy with computer"

Rabbit simply replied I finished my lab work; I am typing my Ph.D thesis. "What is your research topic" Fox asked.

Soon, a wolf came and stopped on watch the hardworking rabbit. Wolf asked same question as fox. Rabbit replied I am going to submit my Ph.D thesis, entitled "How wolves were eaten by rabbits".

Wolf: "Do you expect such type of rubbished things, does the scientific committee will accept it. Rabbit: "No problem, but I can show you."

Rabbit took wolf in to his laboratory and again few minutes later only the rabbit returned and continued his work.

Do you know what was really happening inside the rabbit's laboratory?. Let's make a move to rabbit's laboratory.

Inside the laboratory in one corner, there is a pile of fox bones. In another corner, a pile of wolf bones and on the other side of the room, a huge lion was belching and picking his teeth. Basically lion was the rabbit's advisor and guiding him for Ph.D.

Moral:

It doesn't matter what topic you have chosen for research, and what research you are doing. But it always matter who is your advisor and how he is using you.

My friend has just shown me this video. Touching! To me, it reflects the spirit of my home - India. Relentless thrive for learning, where knowledge is considered the power and asset for securing one's future rather seeking short-cuts. Where the new generation believes in doing Karma rather relying on fortune. Where the young blood asks for an opportunity to prove his/her ability rather to latch over people who believe to prove one's self and then think to give opportunity to one or not. The biggest strength here is the faith in Karmas and one's intuition rather fumbling and going away from achieving the dream a little child has just made. Ice-age - It's happening.....

Although this post does not directly concern with medicine, global warming is an imminent concern we are facing which to many is more crucial than pandemics of HIV and other diseases. We must now (better to be late than never) respect our environment and consume energy in sensible manner rather keeping 'who cares' attitude. Recently published studies showed a temperature drop of nearly 15 degrees Fahrenheit in central North America region, largest ever change since the age of the dinosaurs 65 million years ago. Personally, I believe that there are many preventable (or better to use - steps to control progression) actions we can initiate on individual/family basis which in fact the fastest step will bring down greenhouse-gas emissions. i.e.: Following norms in utilizing home and office appliances, driving fuel efficient cars, etc. Although these steps may not even a tip of iceberg (energy expenditure by industries), it's best to be proactive and hope conflicts between environment protectionists, industrial bigheads and government officials will soon end to act in compliance with a common shared goal - Save The Future, Long Live Beautiful Earth.

FAITH, BELIEF, LOVE AND FEAR

The most naïve question to ask would be "what is faith?". Faith seems to be something that one takes to be true without any rational reason. However, faith is often confused with belief.

Belief is a worldly emotion. It is practical. It has nothing to do with the spiritual. We can turn a person's belief into disbelief by providing rational arguments, but faith cannot be proved wrong.

Belief often turns into faith when a person holds on to his belief even after being presented with rational arguments against it.

To put it in a sentence in order to make it clearer:

"Our belief in God is an act of faith".

This is a well known verse which clearly distinguishes between the two. It proves that belief is an act, its practical. It is an activity one performs based on his faith.

For example, when a small child is read a fairy tale they believe it. It does not become their faith. When a child is told that Santa Claus come from the North Pole and puts gifts under the Christmas tree, the child believes it. It is belief and not faith. But as he grows older and realizes that the story is not true, his belief in it vanishes because there is no proof of Santa Claus.

However, faith is completely irrational. Ones faith in god is totally irrational. Although there is no proof of God, one does not abandon his faith. Faith, hence, cannot be 'unfatithed'. (? infatuated)

Beliefs are made and broken from time to time. As we grow older, we acquire new beliefs and discard old ones. But faith can only be established during childhood. As we grow older our ability to acquire new faith diminishes.

Here I am using the word childhood very loosely. After all what does childhood mean? Is there any specific age for childhood?

I would define childhood as innocence of mind. As we grow older, we loose this innocence. This means, only innocence can deep root faith in us.

One can argue that the example of Santa Claus is wrong, because it is our childhood and we are innocent at that time. Hence, it is faith and not belief.

But the reader be careful, I have defined childhood as innocence not the other way round. By the time we start understanding the story of Santa Claus, we have already lost a lot of our innocence.

This may bring us upon the question that what motivated us to acquire belief and faith? And what is it that takes it away or makes us hold on to them?

One of the main reasons for is 'greed'. When we are children, it is the greed for gifts that make us believe in the story and as an adult our greed to go to heaven keeps our faith in God. After all God is the gate keeper to heaven!

So, belief and faith is just manifestation of greed in varying intensity. We hold on to a belief only until it is profitable to us. Events that give us a promise of greater profit turn into faith, although sometimes we may not get receive the profit in our lifetime. Other belief such as honesty dies out with time, when it is not longer profitable to us.

One may argue that I am not greedy. But be ware that every one of us is greedy. Only its extent varies. We may not hurt someone else for our own profit; however, this does not mean we are not greedy, it only means we have another emotion in us called 'fear'. It is the fear of going to hell that keeps us from hurting others for profit. Fear in some people may be stronger than greed and in some greed stronger than love.

But there is emotion that breaks all the natures of law. It can over come all other emotions. It has the power to create miracles. This emotion is dubbed in English as 'love'. A person in love may even choose to go to hell for the loved one. He may break all traditions, beliefs and even faith for his loved one.

There is no such thing as true love and false love/infatuation. Love is always selfless, it never fails or dies. What people many times call as false love/infatuation is another form of greed; a momentary short lived profit that soon dies out. As I said before, love is an emotion that breaks all rational laws. Love is many times confused with greed.

Love may be of self-love or selfless-love. Greed is a form of self-love. Hence, no other emotion can exist without the two basic ones: love and fear. Love is a excitatory emotion, fear is a inhibitory one.

Loneliness/sadness is lack of love. Guilt is a form of fear (fear of going to hell, fear of some one coming to know your dark secret). Freedom is lack of fear. Happiness is the result of love. Low-esteem is lack of self love. Beauty is a form of love. Confidence is presence of self love. Sacrifice is selfless-love. Lust is a form of greed and so forth.

Just like colors are made up of red, green and blue. All emotions are made up of love and fear.

Think twice next time you jump into a strangers car !

This story happened about a month ago, in a little town in Mexico, and even though it sounds like an Alfred Hitchcock tale it's real.

This guy was on the side of the road, hitch hiking, on a very dark night and in the middle of a storm. The night was black and no cars went by. The storm was so strong, he could hardly see a few feet ahead of him. Suddenly he saw a car coming towards him. It stopped. The guy, without thinking about it, got in the car, closed the door and and then realized there was nobody behind the wheel.

The car started slowly. The guy looks at the road and sees a curve coming his way. Scared he starts to pray begging for his life. He hasn't come out of shock, when just before he hits the curve, a hand appears thru the window and moves the wheel.The guy, paralyzed in terror, watches how the hand appears every time they get to a curve.

The guy, gathering strength, gets out of the car and runs to the nearest town. Wet and in shock, he goes to a cantina and asks for two shots of tequila,and starts telling everybody about the horrible experience he just went thru. A silence enveloped everybody when they realized the guy is crying and isn't drunk.

About half an hour later, two guys walked in the same cantina and one said to the other. "Look Pepe, there's the jerk that got in the car when we were pushing it!!! "

I was in the airport VIP lounge en route to Seattle a couple of weeks
ago. While in there, I noticed Bill Gates sitting comfortably in the
corner, enjoying a drink. I was meeting a very important client who was

Well, being a straightforward kind of guy, I approached the Microsoft

Jack decided to go skiing with his buddy, Bob. So they loaded up Jack 's
mini van and headed north.
After driving for a few hours, they got caught in a terrible blizzard.
So they pulled into a nearby farm and asked the attractive lady who
answered the door if they could spend the night.

"I realize it's terrible weather out there and I have this huge house
all to myself, but I am recently widowed," she explained. " I m afraid
the neighbours will talk if I let you stay in my house."

"Don't worry," Jack said. "We'll be happy to sleep in the barn. And if
the weather breaks, we'll be gone at first light. " The lady agreed, and
the two men found their way to the barn and settled in for the night.
Come morning, the weather had cleared, and they got on their way. They
